Mishustin Outlines Development of Russia’s Icebreaker Fleet

Russia is strengthening its icebreaker fleet to expand Arctic shipping and is continuing to develop coastal infrastructure in the northern latitudes, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

“To boost Arctic transportation, we are reinforcing our icebreaker fleet. Just on Tuesday, with the participation of the president—as many of you saw—the Baltic Shipyard held a keel-laying ceremony for the seventh nuclear-powered icebreaker, which has been named Stalingrad,” Mishustin said during the plenary session of the Transport of Russia forum.

He noted that work is also ongoing to expand coastal infrastructure in the northern regions, in particular at the ports of Murmansk, Sabetta, Dikson, and Pevek, as well as on the land routes leading to them.
