Brazil and Russia Discuss Agricultural Machinery Cooperation

Brazil is considering joint projects with Russia in the production of agricultural machinery, including the possible localisation of manufacturing, Brazil’s ambassador to Moscow, Sergio Rodrigues dos Santos, said in an interview with the Russian state news agency TASS.

Brazil is interested in expanding industrial cooperation with Russia in agricultural machinery and equipment, the ambassador said. Potential projects could target both the Russian domestic market and exports, with a focus on cost competitiveness and adapting equipment to local operating conditions.

Russia’s agricultural sector has strengthened significantly in recent years, achieving a high level of self-sufficiency in key food categories, dos Santos said. From Brazil’s perspective, this creates conditions for expanding production chains, including in machinery and equipment for the agro-industrial sector.

Brazilian government officials have confirmed that agricultural cooperation with Russia remains an active area of bilateral engagement. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has reported ongoing dialogue with Russian counterparts on trade, regulatory matters and technical cooperation, including within the BRICS framework. Brazil has also recently obtained additional market access for certain agricultural products in Russia, according to official statements.

Beyond machinery manufacturing, Brazil sees potential for cooperation with Russia in information technology and digital solutions that could be integrated into agro-industrial projects, the ambassador said. No formal intergovernmental agreements on joint machinery production have been announced, and discussions remain preliminary.

The initiative reflects broader efforts among BRICS countries to deepen industrial and technological cooperation as global supply chains undergo structural changes, with agriculture identified as a strategic sector by both sides.
