VEB.RF has provided 1.15 billion rubles for the construction of a new terminal at Murmansk Airport, the state corporation reported. The project, launched via video link during Transport Week in Moscow, is VEB.RF’s 17th airport infrastructure initiative and its northernmost.
Implemented in partnership with Sberbank through the Project Financing Factory, the terminal is part of a 4.7-billion-ruble project. Murmansk Airport serves as the main transport hub connecting the Arctic region with the rest of Russia and plays a strategic role in the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor.
According to VEB.RF Chairman Igor Shuvalov, the airport’s capacity will reach 3 million passengers annually once the terminal is fully operational. The new 7,065-sq.-m facility, inspired by the Khibiny Mountains, will double throughput to 400 passengers per hour and features two jet bridges for improved comfort in cold conditions.
Murmansk Airport is currently served by Aeroflot, Rossiya, Pobeda, Azimut, Severstal, Ikar, Red Wings, Smartavia, Nordwind, and Pegas Fly.
